How to get from Krakow Airport to Krakow center with public transportation?

I would like to travel from Krakow Airport to the city center using public transportation (not taxi). How can that be done and how much will it cost?

The John Paul II Balice International Airport opened in September 2015 and has since then turned into a giant portal for travelers coming to and from Krakow. At the airport you will find everything needed on a big international airport, and since it is so modern, you will also find easy ways to get to the city center of Krakow. Here are the three best methods.

Get to Krakow city center from Krakow Airport

The quickest way to get to the city center

The fastest way for traveling between Krakow Airport and the city center is using the airport train. This travels every 30 minutes between 04.00 in the morning and 24.00 in the evening. The full travel time is 18 minutes, making it the fastest way of traveling between the airport and the city center. You will then arrive to Krakow railway station and the price for a train ticket is 9 ZL. The train station is super central in Krakow, and you will only be minutes away from the old town.

A slower way to get to the city center

There are two buses which can be used to get from Krakow airport to the city center of Krakow. Bus 252 and bus 208 travel from the airport towards the city center of Krakow. The duration of the trip is between 40 and 50 minutes. Bus 208 has the final stop at Dworzec Główny Wschód, and will possibly stop at 27 stops before reaching its final destination.

Bus 252 will terminate at Os.Podwawelskie, and before reaching that destination it will stop at for example Cracovia Błonia, Cracovia, Jubilat, Konopnickiej and Centrum Kongresowe ICE.

It is important that you have to buy an outer ring ticket for these rides, and this ticket cost 4 ZL.

Instead you can do your shopping from the German Amazon store in Polish. There might come some German words and sentences here and there, but in general you can enjoy your shopping experience in Polish. Doesn’t that sound cool? Unfortunately there are quite a lot of goods that can’t be delivered to Poland, but hopefully Amazon.de will offer free shopping to Poland as well in the near future.

What can you shop from Amazon.de?

You can buy Kindle, Fire tablets and lots of Amazon products. But, often you will discover that these products can not be delivered to Poland. In such cases you can use a package forwarding company to have those packages delivered to your home address in Poland still. Another option is to order something else, and the truth is that most products available on Amazon in Germany can be delivered to Poland. Look around and you will discover this for yourself!

Most people in Poland have done their shopping at Amazon in England or in the USA until now. The US Amazon Store might be the cheapest, but the problem is that VAT which will be added to all orders surpassing a certain amount, and once the VAT is added as the package arrives to Poland, it ain’t that cheap anymore.

The UK Amazon Store is easier to use, since it is inside the European Union (at least for a while). But, the prices there are higher than at the German Amazon, so there are several reasons for you to go ahead and use the German Amazon store instead of the American or the English Amazon store.

As you probably already know the traditional Christmas market in Krakow is the perfect place to get the right Christmas atmosphere. It is located at the main market square in the center of the Old Town of Krakow, and here you will have a good time! At the Christmas market you can buy traditional Polish souvenirs, either for yourself or to give them away for Christmas. You can also drink some tasty hot wine or maybe stronger stuff, and if you feel like you want to fill your stomach with something delicious, then the Christmas market is the right place to be again.
