In addition to all the pilgrims coming to the event itself lots of them will arrive much earlier to town and that is why all trips to Auschwitz and to the Salt Mines are set aside for the pilgrims during this period, meaning that you as a sole tourist will not be able to join in on these trips.

But, if you plan on coming to Krakow to take part in the World Youth Day, then this is a fantastic chance to meet up with lots of other believers and if you are lucky you might even get to see and hear the Pope himself.
